Hey Paridhi18

Well in the end it's in the story telling. How did those experiences inform your perspective of the world and of other people? Plenty of people have the privilege to travel but learn absolutely nothing. The schools want to know how you function in a multicultural environment, which is what you will be in with them. Additionally did you manage these teams? What were your insights from the interactions you had about other cultures? Think along those lines and feel free to contact infoZambukoAdvisory when you are ready to go on this journey.

Hi all,

I took the Official GMAT today and got a 660 (Q47, V34), not sure how to feel about it yet.

I had been aiming for some of the top MBA programs in (a) Europe such as HEC, Insead, LBS, IESE and RSM, (b) a couple in US- Kellogg, Booth and Stern, and (c) Canada- Rotman.

But with a 660 I am not sure how my application will uphold in any of these colleges.

Would really appreciate if you guys can provide some input.

To give you a little background-
I am a 28 years old, Indian female, corporate lawyer (M&A/ PE).

3.5 years of work experience and currently working in one of India’s leading full service law firm.

I graduated with 6.1/8 GPA from one of India’s top 15 law schools. My undergrad program was an integration of Bachelors in business administration and LLB (India’s JD equivalent).

For international exposure in terms of work- I only have a month long internship with a VC firm in Amsterdam to show.

I don’t have any leadership experience.

I can take the GMAT again, but I will prefer not to as I usually have a 60 hours work week. Having said that, if that’s the only way to get things moving for my applications I might as well take the test.

Also, what rounds would you guys recommend applying in.

Thank you!

Hi Paridhi,

we at MBA Decoder have worked with several Indian lawyers applying to MBA programs, and I would suggest you go ahead and retake GMAT. Even if that means pushing our application plans to next year. For American programs, you must apply by R2. You will likely not have that privilege as the deadlines are less than 2 weeks away.
Its a very competitive scenario and you have selected the best MBA programs in the world with high average GMAT scores. The combination of your GPA + GMAT will not hold you in good stead. And, also b-schools expect corporate lawyers to do well in the GMAT quant as a way to show your quant capabilities.

Regarding leadership- you dont have to lead a team to be a leader. A leader is one who can influence/persuade/convince others to achieve a common objective. I am sure you would have such stories to quote.

Hope that helps in putting things into perspective and coming back again as a stronger applicant for next year :)

Thanks for your response, it has been helpful. It appears I need to be well within 700s to make my application strong. So I have decided to take the GMAT again. Wish me luck :)
