Are at least 10% of the employees at ABC Corporation who are [#permalink]

Forget conventional ways of solving math questions. In DS, Variable approach is

the easiest and quickest way to find the answer without actually solving the

problem. Remember equal number of variables and equations ensures a solution.

Are at least 10% of the employees at ABC Corporation who are considered veterans also holders of stock options in the company?

(1) 11.3 % of the company's employees are considered veterans of the company.

(2) Of ABC's Corporation's veterans, 20 % of the males and 10 % of the females had stock options.

==> following the variable approach method, if we transform the original condition and the question, the question is asking if the number of employees who holds stock option composes more than 10% veterans. (at least=min) In case of 2), if the veterans are all male then there are 20%, and if the veterans are all females then there are 10%, thus the answer is always yes. Therefore it is sufficient. The answer is B.

This is a common 2by2 question in GMAT Math test

both veterans(v) and holders of stock options(s):a
v but not s:b
s but not v:c
neither v nor s:d
we have 4 variables as above, (a,b,c,d), and thus we need 4 equations but we only have 1 each in 1) and 2). Therefore E is likely the answer in these problems.

A. Not suufucuent as not giving any stock holding details

B. Males 20 % & Female 10 %

so, 10% < atleast 10 % < 20 %

so both case is sufficient hence B is correct
