agree strongly with the boys here....your story alone could get you in right now but a 700+ gmat would be great....is it the verbal thats low? if your quant is high and you crush the TOFEL maybe its doable at stern, but considering your uniqueness and the timing you have the chance to take the gmat again so why not bring up that score

Hello every one.
I kindly ask you to evaluate my chances to get into Chicago Booth, HBS, or NY Stern given my profile.
I am 29 yo, male, from Ukraine.
GMAT 1st - 660, 2nd - 640. TOEFL is still ahead. GPA - smth. about 3.8. Undergraduate major - international relations and diplomacy from one of the most prestigious Russian universities.
Have 7,5 years of work experience as a diplomat. Was serving in Israel for 4 years and Vienna, Austria for 1 year as a political officer.

so, do I stand a chance? should I try to improve my GMAT score?

I appreciate your contributions.

Your profile is quite differentiated so that might make your chances bright. Are there initiatives outside work that you haven’t mentioned because that could play an important role in your profile? Further you could highlight things that you might have done in an industrial level. And yes you should try to improve your GMAT score if you are aiming for top schools. You should aim for a score above 700 to make it into these top institutes. Looking at the 2012 class profile at Harvard the students scored between 550-790 in their GMAT and the median GMAT score was 730. Similarly at Wharton’s MBA class of 2012 the students scored between 650-770 in their GMAT and the median GMAT score being 720.

Thanks!

thanks everybody for the replies! they were really helpful. well, following the recommendations and my own consideratins I did retake the GMAT for the third (!) time and scored 690 (V35, Q48, AWA5). This is better than 660, that I had before, but still is below the GMAT avarage in the top school which I am aiming at, e.g. Chicago Booth, NY Stern or HBS.

I this regard I have a question whether my GMAT improvement for 30 points makes any difference in my chances or the situatins remains the same in general terms?

thanks for your opinions.

Looks solid now -- the Q48 is great, and the V35 isn't terrible considering you're non-native. Good luck mate!
