After having taken the actual GMAT today, I can confirm that the Quant section is indeed "harder" than the actual GMAT.. or at the very least, the questions are more time consuming. I found the GMATprep test to be the most accurate representation of my score. of the 3
mgmat tests i took, only the last one was close to my actual score.
However, I think I gained a ton of valuable insight from taking the
MGMAT practice CAT exams. For the price you pay (as little as $20 if you buy one of the books on amazon.com), you get 6 full length tests and explanations, breakdowns, etc. Money well spent IMO.
Shadow, when you say only one of the
mgmat tests was close to your actual score, do you mean
mgmat tests are harder than the actual test?
I recently took an
mgmat practice and scored a lot lower on the quant than I expected, since I was doing very well with the official guide questions.
Do you still believe the
mgmat cats are a good source of practice?
Thanks
hi blayze,
i certainly think that mgmats are an excellent source of practice. Although the Q section in the
MGMAT was much harder and longer than the actual GMAT, it made me work faster and more efficiently, which I carried over to the actual GMAT.
Don't worry, I too struggled with Quant at first on the
MGMAT after doing well on the GMATprep. However, after taking 3 of the tests, I did notice an improvement.
My advice is - use the
MGMAT CAT tests as practice, and use it to go over your weaknesses (make sure you go over your score report), but don't put too much importance on the actual scores. The GMATPrep test is still the most reliable indicator source, although by the end of my studying, my
MGMAT and GMATPrep test scores were almost identical.
