Hi
fb95,
It is definitely not a bad option to retake the GMAT and improve your score. A better than average GMAT score of the class always improves the chances of selection. However, even at your current score, I would like to tell you that you shouldn’t feel disheartened. The 5% of the students at INSEAD have scores between 600 and 650. Also, if you have some other evidence of your academic potential, you may want to highlight that. Schools always welcome information that can provide better insights into a candidate’s potential.
Your profile looks very strong with work-experience and startup project being a highlight of your profile. Your manager role at a Fortune 500 pharma company speaks a lot about your leadership abilities and states a very important point that you come with a strong leadership background. Apart from this, your academics are very strong as well, further aided by the proficiency in three languages.
I would like to make a point that adcoms aren't exactly looking for a precise score. Rather, they judge a candidate on their overall profile with a diverse set of characteristics, values and skills. INSEAD specifically prefers applicants which have led teams in the past. You must be able to connect the dots in your application process that how an MBA at a certain b-school will propel you in your career and make you a better leader.
However, what I find missing here is a mention of your ECs, interests, hobbies and post-MBA goals. They are as important as your work-ex, GMAT score and academics. These add a diverse set of values and perspective to the profile of the candidate and must not be ignored. You must showcase them and also cover how your certain hobbies, ECs, and interests have made you a better person or a better leader.
With reference to your essays, I believe a remarkable coverage will be your past leadership experiences or learnings. Or how you handled a crisis in the company. You may also showcase your career progression highlighting how you have become a better person over time.
If you'd like, we are happy to hop on a call some time this week to discuss your chances in further detail and help you understand INSEAD better. Being an INSEAD alumnus myself, I have helped many unconventional candidates to lead them to INSEAD and I’ll be more than happy to assist you in your journey.

Hi all,
I'm planning to apply for Insead Sep.2022 intake and I have just received GMAT scores:
640 (Q48/V31) IR: 7
Here some info on me:
- Country commercial lead (fortune 500 big-pharma), former marketing manager and brand manager
- Inventor (international patent) of a novel drug delivery system (founder of a startup project selected by World Top-5 University Business Incubator)
- Background: Pharm.D. (combined bachelor's/master's degree; GPA 3.7) + Specialized master in international healthcare management from SDA Bocconi
- 26y.o in sep.22 intake R1 application
- Italian
- Proficient in 3 languages
Would you suggest me to retake the GMAT? It is easily understandable that verbal is my pain-point but I'm wondering if I can compensate verbal with the essays and if Quant & IR are considered more important during the application process.
I would like to thank you all in advance
I personally believe GMATclub is one of the most useful and best structured forum i have ever seen!
