Oh BTW, DON'T take the Kaplan if you're having confidence issues. I haven't taken it before, but so far 90% of the posts I've read say that the scores are 100+ pts lower, the verbal part is hard not because it's tricky, but because it's awkward and non-GMAT like.

I'd stick with MGMAT as the closest thing to the real GMAT outside of GMATPrep and PowerPrep. Again, add 2-4 pts to your Quant score (roughly 20-40 pts to your total score) and you should get a good evaluation.

i took my first MGMAT test today and i got 650...44 in quants and 34 in verbal....the quants pulled my pants down (seriously ) ....i had to guess the last 6-7 questions and in verbal i got only 45% of my SC correct  ....in my normal practice i normally have a 80-85% hit rate with SC

I used the pause/restart button to perfection for the last 7-8 questions on both sections. I believe I got only abt 60% in SC.

Interesting to note is that I got 5/5 right in 600-700... but only 3/9 in 700-800 score range. It really makes me wonder whether I've got a genuine problem. Maybe I am just not 700 material and could not grab the 700+ score opportunity that was given to me many times by the test.

Even Worse was RC... I got only 1/7 right in 700-800 range. I havent practiced RCs at all, so I am planning to attack them this week like I worked on SCs last week. All I want is to breach the 40+ zone consistently.

If I start doing that consistently, I am hopeful of breaching 700 even after taking the exam day blues into consideration. I remember getting 700+ in GRE verbal again and again in practice CATs only to blow it away on the exam day. I hope that never happens again. This is no time for these negative thoughts any way

I plan to take them some time. But I am going to act like I never saw the score report. Though almost everyone is critical of their scoring strategy, Not many seem to have an issue with the actual content of the exam.

But I am in love with this MGMAT review reports and assessment reports. They are brilliant. Really well done!!!

yes, MGMAT CAT reports are AMAZING... well worth the money (or time spent) and really gives you a good picture of where your weaknesses are.

As for getting 3/9 right in the 700-800 range questions, REMEMBER that MGMAT's 700-800 questions are probably harder than ANY GMAT question I've ever seen, so take it with a grain of salt. If you can get all the questions right in 600-700 and 3 in 700-800, you're doing well. I think I was under 50% for the 700-800 questions (especially since I ran out of time near the end), and still ended up with a 51 in Q (and usually 49-50 in GMATPrep/PowerPrep tests).

I think you'll be fine... if you can get a 47 in MGMAT Quant, your quant will be ok. Just get a good score in verbal, as I find it to be spot on in terms of scoring.

Hi guys,

I took 4 Kaplan CATs till now. I got the following scores:
CAT1: 660 (46Q + 34V)
CAT2: 680 (52Q + 30V)
CAT3: 670 (51Q + 28V)
CAT4: 680 (52Q + 29V)

I haven't really improved my scores from CAT1. I couldn't cross the 680 barrier. I just want my scores to cross 720. I'm doing really bad in Verbal, especially in CR and RC. Those are killing my scores. I want to improve my verbal score to 40. I'm planning to take Manhattan GMAT CATs now. My test date is 9/14.
Any suggestions appreciated.

Thanks,
Gary.

These are some of the highest kaplan scores I have seen here.

550+ in Kaplan could translate to 650+ in GMAT

680 is quite a lot man.

hi guys,

i have taken GMAT Prep Test from official GMAt site, which i say diagnostic test, was terrible one!! i finished with paltry 550. I am using kaplan book for prep, barrons for WL.
its very much sure i have to work really hard on basics before i take next test. i am not sure with the results coming exactly opposite of what i am expecting for.
I am now thinking to switch to kaplan tests to judge my prep.
any suggestions pertaining to books and tests are welcome......

Start with Princeton, Get an idea, move on to Official Guide and if you want to crack 700, give MGMAT some serious thought.

Kaplan can replace Princeton to an extent, but others cant be replaced. (There is an error in the above sentence. Some food for thought).

But I think you need to spend some time understanding the test. Barron's word list is not relevant to GMAT. GMAT requires you to know standard vocablury, but learning "abase...abash...abet...abhor" wont be of much help in this test.

many thanks for reply in a jiffy!

i have kaplan with me, RC and CR is explained well in that, so i should say its better to stick with kaplan for a while. Surely i ll move to official GMAT guide in coming days.

WL is what matters most for me, to gain something in next test. what is to be done to improve the same? Or wordlist as whole in GMAT is not that much massive task as for GRE.

Believe me, it was the worst nightmare of my life. I just blanked out during the test. And I have no idea why I never considered a re-take. Anyway, I got into a decent school. So that hardly matters now.

But it was worse than one of those mid-terms in columbia. I distinctly remember an exam in which I scored 18/100, but still managed to get a A-. I was very confident that day. All I had to do was to look around for some comfort. There was not a single soul in that class room that looked like solving any of the problems it was presented with.

Well, These are CATs from Class room course. Is there any difference between CATs from Class room and CATs from Regular Kaplan Book available outside?

The Classroom Kaplan is supposedly EASIER, while the book/online Kaplan CATs are insanely hard. So make sure you know which one you're taking.
