My answer is (E). It took me 01:22.

It soon becomes clear that we have to choose one answer from either (A) or (E).

(A) Compared with boys approaching adulthood, girls gain strength more slowly.
(E) Compared with boys approaching adulthood, girls approaching adulthood gain strength more slowly.

Now, (A) is more concise, for sure.
But, is (A) logical?
To have Apple vs. Apple comparison, we can only compare "girls approaching adulthood" with "boys approaching adulthood", as (E) does.
(A) is unclear. So it is out.

A. girls gain strength more slowly- INCORRECT -NO REFERENCE OF GROWTH RATE BEING COMPARED
B. they gain strength more slowly- THEY
C. gain in strength by girls is more slow SONCTRUCTION ERROR
D. slower strength is gained by the girls approaching adulthoodSENTENCE CONSTRUCTION IS WRONG
E. girls approaching adulthood gain strength more slowly CORRECT - REFERENCE OF GROWTH RATE BEING COMPARED AT ADULTHOOD
