My answer is (E). It took me 01:22.
It soon becomes clear that we have to choose one answer from either (A) or (E).
(A) Compared with boys approaching adulthood, girls gain strength more slowly.
(E) Compared with boys approaching adulthood, girls approaching adulthood gain strength more slowly.
Now, (A) is more concise, for sure.
But, is (A) logical?
To have Apple vs. Apple comparison, we can only compare "girls approaching adulthood" with "boys approaching adulthood", as (E) does.
(A) is unclear. So it is out.
It soon becomes clear that we have to choose one answer from either (A) or (E).

(E) Compared with boys approaching adulthood, girls approaching adulthood gain strength more slowly.
Now, (A) is more concise, for sure.
