Cactus B = (70/100) * Cactus A
The amount of Water Received is :
Cactus B : Cactus A = 7:10 = 7x : 10x
We need to find the amount of water retained: Ret A > Ret B ?
Statement 1:
(1) Over the month, Cactus A received 200 ounces of water.
We know that , water received is given by the relation
Cactus B : Cactus A = 7:10 = 7x : 10x
Cactus A = 10x = 200, then x =20
Cactus B = 7x = 7*20 = 140 .
We get to know the amount of water received, but not retained .
Hence, Insufficient
Statement 2:
(2) Over the month, Cactus A retained 2 percent water and Cactus B retained 3 percent water.
water received: Cactus B : Cactus A = 7:10 = 7x : 10x
Ret A = 2% * (10x) = 0.2x
Ret B = 3%*(7x) = 0.21x
Clearly, irrespective of the value of x,
Ret B > Ret A
0.21 x > 0.2x
We can definitely say, Ret A is LESS THAN Ret B.
Hence, Sufficient
