B. they would have allocated previously to their academic pursuits—‘they’ is incongruent with the singular school. --- wrong


C. that in the past would have been allocated previously to academic pursuits – past and previously are redundant --- wrong

D. it previously would have allocated to academic pursuits in the past ---- past and previously are redundant --- wrong


E. it would in the past have allocated to academic pursuits --- The correct choice by POE

OFFICIAL EXPLANATION

After we've read the sentence and the answer choices, we should notice that one difference among answer choices is whether the school is referred to as an "it" or a "they." A school is a single institution and so it's a singular subject, which means we can eliminate the options with "they" or "their":

Choices (A) and (B). Choice (C) doesn't use a pronoun for "the school," but it says "in the past" and "previously," which is redundant—a mistake that (D) also makes.

Choice (E) is the only option that correctly uses "it" and doesn't repeat itself.

The correct answer is Choice (E).
