Hey Guys...This is Victor here. I am in a confusing spot I can say. I definitely need some help. Found you guys on the net and thought I would ask for some suggestions.
GMAT - 690. (Writing again in 2 weeks. Targeting R3)
Background -
Indian IT Male, 30 yrs age, Engineering Graduate from a Tier 3 college of India with 77% score. (Nothing special)
Experience -
7.25 years of IT experience. (Will be almost 8 by the time I am admitted)
6.25 Years in Top 2 Indian Services Company + 1 year in a US Retail Giant(3rd in US). In USA for the last 3 years.
Leadership Experience -
Leading teams of various sizes(3-30) from the last 4 years.
Have lead small portfolio accounts of around $2+mil. with 25+ people. (like pseudo manager)
Currently working as a lead in Fortune 500 company leading a team of 3. (But not much leadership work going on as team is in prototype stage right now)
Extra Curricular -
Have volunteered with Company CSR extensively for improving orphanages and old age homes.
Have volunteered a long time with wildlife rescue and forest department to rescue wildlife, care and finally release back to wild. Done fundraising seminars as well.
Have volunteered with UN Online and helped small NGOs to expand/establish their online presence. (Have certificates)
Currently volunteering at local food banks in a very small scale.
Black Belt in Kick Boxing and Karate.
Colleges I am thinking of -
Tuck, CBS, Booth, Stern, Kellogg and Haas. (Looking to move to Finance or IT Finance)
Now my confusion....
My scores in school and college are average and neither I have any awards to showcase at work.
1. What are my chances ?
2. Am a little late for Full Time MBA ?
3. I am way above the average age of MBA and also above the average experience. Should I go for part time MBA instead ?
Big Question - Am I a little too old and too common ?Thanks everyone for the help. Appreciate your valuable responses.
Hey Victor,
Good to hear from you sir.
So first of all two things:
1. If you want to apply this year, go with your 700 and go for it in R2
2. As an Indian IT guy, forget about R3. The chances are minuscule for even a rarer candidate, and it will be very very tough for someone from the applicant pool you come from.
So that's the first thing to decide: Do you go with the GMAT you have and moderate your school list? (Top 10-15 schools will be out of range with your GMAT) Or do you wait a year? Each choice has its own pros and con, but its something you should think about (and if you have questions, by all means!)
Now both your work and volunteer experience seem quite good. It's hard for me to really evaluate, cause I have little detail about them (esp. your work experience). So if you elaborate I can tell you more about that.
At 30, you are by no means "too old" for a regular MBA. So if what you REALLY want to do is make a career switch I think a two-year MBA is the right way to go.
Feel free to get back to me with looooots more detail about your work experience, or drop us a line here:
