Can anyone pls review my one of awa essays?
The topic is: The following appeared as part of an annual report sent to stockholders by Olympic Foods, a processor of frozen foods.
" Over time the costs of processing go down because an organization learn how to do things better, they become more efficient. In color film processing industry, for example, the cost of a 3 by 5-inch print fell from 50 cents for five-day service in 1970 to 20 cents for one day service in 1984. The same principle applies to the processing of food. And since Olympic Foods will soon celebrate the 25th birthday, we can expect that our long experience will enable us to minimize costs and thus maximize profits".
Ans:
The author of the extracts of that annual report made an easy hypothesis that the organization will easily save its processing costs as time passes and as they have years of experience. However, the author didn’t consider the investment that is required to improve the food processing and it’s not certain how long will they will they have to wait to get profit after years of investing in the manufacturing section.
Firstly, the author compared the film processing sector with the food frozen sector without considering the issues and differentiating factors between these two sectors. The author just took the cost saving of film processing into account but didn’t consider how much was invested to improve the film processing system. There may be a lot of investments, e.g. research and development cost, cost of buying new machines, the cost of hiring scientists etc. If all of these costs are taken into account, then there might not be a net profit within a short period of time. The food frozen industry must take these costs into account.
Secondly, the author didn’t consider that there were many talented scientists and developers who were devoted themselves to improve the film processing system at that time, so it’s was possible to succeed. However, it’s not certain how many scientists will put their efforts into the frozen food industry to develop their system.
Thirdly, the author was very confident that there are a lot of opportunities to develop the frozen food industries’ manufacturing system in a level that will bring an acceptable cost saving. It may be likely that there were a lot of areas in the film processing sectors’ production system to be developed, and so, the scientists contributed their efforts into these areas. It may be possible that there are not as many areas to be improved in that frozen food sectors as was in the film processing sectors, and so, acceptable result might not be seen within a reasonable time.
Finally, the author was very confident that their 25 years of experience will result in cost saving easily. However, the author didn’t consider how much they have been efficient as of now in terms of saving cost. Without considering the previous success, it can’t be told confidently that they will surely succeed within a short time.
To conclude, as the author didn’t consider these issues, the statement is not convincing. To substantiate the statement, the above issues must be taken into account.
