At a medical convention attended only by pediatricians and general surgeons, 40 percent of the 250 pediatricians in attendance were male, and 60 percent of the general surgeons were male. How many people were at the convention?
------------Pediatricians---GeneralSurgeons---Total
Male------100-----------------0.6G
Female---150-----------------0.4G
Total------250-----------------G--------------------G+250
We need to find G+250
(1) The ratio of male pediatricians to female general surgeons was 2 to 3.
We can find 0.4G => we can find G+250. Sufficient.
(2) There were exactly 150 female general surgeons in attendance.
We got 0.4G => we can find G+250. Sufficient.
Answer is D
------------Pediatricians---GeneralSurgeons---Total
Male------100-----------------0.6G
Female---150-----------------0.4G
Total------250-----------------G--------------------G+250

A = No. of Male Ps
B = No. of Female Ps
C = No. of Male Ss
D = No. of female Ss.
Sum of these 4 is the total number of participants
Given:
A+B=250
Male Ps = 100
Female Ps = 150
Male Ss = 60 PERCENT
Female Ss = 40 Percent
Statement 1: Gives the ratio to find out Female surgeons and hence Male Surgeons. Sufficient
Statement 2: Defines 40 percent of surgeons. Remaining 60 percent can be calculated, therby giving the total number of surgeons, which added with total no. of Ps gives the number of attendees.
Both are each sufficient.
Hence, D
B = No. of Female Ps
C = No. of Male Ss
D = No. of female Ss.
Sum of these 4 is the total number of participants
