Let the total money spent by John be 60x dollars.

Money spent on fresh fruits and vegetables = ½* 60x = 30x

Money spent on meat products = \(\frac{1}{3}\) * 60x = 20x

Money spent on bakery products = \(\frac{1}{10}\) * 60x = 6x

Money remaining after the above spends = 60x – (30x + 20x + 6x) = 60x – 56x = 4x.

4x represents $6, which was the amount he spent on candy.
4x = 6, therefore, x = \(\frac{3}{2}\)

Therefore, total money spent by John = 60x = 60 * \(\frac{3}{2}\) = 90 dollars.

The correct answer option is C.

Hi Hoozan,

You have worked it out correctly by converting the fractions into percentages. However, the next part of your solution is incorrect. Please note the below -

50 % +33 % + 10 % + $6 = $ Total

93 % of Total + $6 = $ Total

This means that $6 represents 7% of the Total (100%).
So, approximating the value of 100% will give us an answer.

$6 = 7 %

$6 x (14) = 7 % x (14)

$84 ~ 98%

If $84 ~ 98% is more than OPTION B, then the CORRECT ANSWER CLOSEST TO 100% IS OPTION C.

I hope it helps.
