At Stephen Stores, 3 pounds of cashews costs $8. What is cost in cents of a bag weighing 9 ounces? (1 pound = 16 ounces)

(A) 30
(B) 60
(C) 90
(D) 120
(E) 150

1 pound = 16 ounces

3*16 = 48 ounces

48 ounces cost $8

9 ounces cost = (8/48)*9 = $ 3/2

Now convert 3/2 into cents

3/2 * 100 = 150 cents.

E is the correct answer.

3 pounds = 8 dollars
3 * 16 ounces = 48 ounces = 800 cents

Now we have to get 9 ounces.

48 * 9/48 = 800 * 9/48 Factor 800 and 48 to scrap some numbers and to make an easier calculation.
9 = 200 * 4 * 3 *3 / 4 * 4 * 3
9 = 200 * 3 / 4 = 150 cents

given
3*16 = 800
so 1 ounce = 800/48
and 9 ounce cost = 800*9 /48
IMO E ; 150
