When analyzing executive MBA programs in India, it is important to first clarify a quick terminology distinction.
 
  ISB's flagship program  is called the  PGP  (Post Graduate Programme). Because it requires a minimum of just 2 years of work experience, its average age skews younger. 
  IIMs  call their traditional two-year degrees "PGP", but they name their one-year executive MBAs for seasoned professionals  PGPX  (e.g., IIM Ahmedabad) or  PGPEx  (e.g., IIM Calcutta).  
Because of these structurally different design frameworks, the percentage of students  above 35 years of age  varies dramatically between ISB PGP and the IIM PGPx-style batches.
1. IIM PGPx Batches (Executive MBAs)
For the one-year executive programs at elite IIMs (Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Calcutta), the minimum eligibility requirement is typically 4 to 5 years of work experience, but the  actual  average of the class is much higher.
 
  The Demographics:  The average age of an incoming IIM Ahmedabad PGPX or IIM Bangalore EPGP cohort consistently hovers right around  30 to 32 years old , with an average work experience of  7.5 to 9 years . 
  The 35+ Percentage:  In a typical IIM PGPx batch, roughly  5% to 10%  of the class is over the age of 35. 
  Who are they?  These candidates generally have 12+ years of experience. They frequently come from specialized backgrounds like the  Indian Armed Forces (Defence) , public sector undertakings (PSUs), government services, or are senior tech architects and entrepreneurs looking to pivot into executive leadership roles.  
2. ISB PGP (Flagship Program)
ISB’s flagship PGP is positioned somewhere between a traditional US two-year MBA and an executive MBA. It attracts a significantly younger crowd than the IIM PGPx.
 
  The Demographics:  The average age of the ISB PGP batch is  26 to 27 years old , with the core "sweet spot" of work experience clustered heavily between  3 to 5 years . 
  The 35+ Percentage:  For the standard full-time PGP, the percentage of students over 35 is incredibly low—usually  under 1% to 2%  of the entire cohort. While the absolute age range does technically span from 21 up to 45, finding someone over 35 in the full-time residential PGP is rare.  
 
What This Means For Your Application
If you are approaching or are above 35 and aiming for these programs, you are a "non-traditional, senior candidate." Admissions committees evaluate you differently than a 26-year-old:
 
  The "Why Now?" Test:  You must explicitly articulate why a full-time, fast-paced one-year program makes sense at this stage of your life rather than a modular EMBA where you keep your job. 
  Employability Risk:  The biggest filter for senior candidates is placement alignment. Schools want to ensure that their visiting recruiters have roles senior enough for your 10+ years of experience, as you cannot be placed into entry-level post-MBA consulting or management trainee tracks.
