When applying to a PhD program, is it normal that the school uses the average of all your GMAT scores if you have tried more than once?

All schools I've checked only say that they require the GMAT.

Hi,

It depends on school to school. Most say that they consider the best score. However, as a general rule it is not considered good to have the most recent score worse than the previous one.

As a general rule keep these scores in mind:

1) Top 10 Business Schools think about more than 740
2) Top 11-25 Business Schools think about 720
3) Top 26 - 50 Business Schools think about 700
4) 50 and below anything from 680 upwards will work

But as far as I have read about this stuff you need a minimum of 700 to be in serious contention in any school.

Hi,

This is basic criteria of selection of professional programs. Schools count average scores of GMAT so you have to score 700 points.

No dear!

GMAT score gives them an idea of how well you can handle complex data (both in Verbal and Quantitative form) that you'll need in future for your Research (as a Scholar in that field). Below average score, let's say 630 won't leave that impression, will it?

GMAT is a standardized exam often used by business schools to assess their applicants. Its relevance is not only well-known in entering MBA, but is also an eminent criterion for consulting Recruiters.

GMAT score does not matter in PhD application even if you have 800
all that matters is your research experience

or let put this way, a guy with 400 GMAT & and a good research experience is undoubtedly a better applicant than a guy with 800 GMAT and zero research experience.

PhD application is not like MBA application, ,,,, as PhD applicant, you are applying for a job ( research / teaching assistant )

bottom line, if you have no research experience, then getting a high GMAT score will not make your application more appealing
