Any government or industry is effectively an organisation with a leader at the helm of things , marching ahead towards the path of success and with him an army of soldiers fighting to achieve their ultimate goal. For a major organisation to be successful the leader should be able to unify all the components of that organisation and motivate them to strive towards achieving organisation's goals.
In any organisation be it government or industry, a leader has to deal with various obstacles and oppositions, and the ability to tackle them by reconciliating with them proves to be the most effective way towards success. For instance, considering the current tussle between the democrats and republicans regarding the healthcare bill has put President Obama in a tough spot. If he could somehow persuade the republicans to support his vision of free healthcare for all Americans will not only boost the current status of the healthcare status in America but also serve as a victory in terms of fulfilling his campaign promises. This would only be possible if Mr. Obama could somehow make certain changes in the bill that would appease the republicans. In other words, if he is willing to consider the opposition's demands and cooperate with them.
Moreover, An industry or a government is host to people from various cultures, ethnicities, races and religions. To make any organisation work efficiently the leader has to ensure that the organisation runs like clockwork where all the cogs and clogs are working in tandem with each other. This would be true only if the leader is willing to help everyone in his establishment, solving their issues and resolving possible conflicts through cooperation and persuasion.
But, to stay afloat in tough competition with rivals, the leader should have a competitive edge to himself that would help him devise new plans to achieve their goals and if situation demands re-innovate themselves
Any successful organisation is a sum of its parts working coherently under a leadership which is willing not only to cooperate with its members but positively counter opposition.
