Hi,

This is sort of embarassing but does anyone have any tips or suggestions how do you start from absolute ZERO scratch when it comes to AWA section? I feel like when Im reading those prompts, nothing comes up to my mind, as if my logical thinking is completely off. Should I start with some middle school logic curriculum?

Thanks

Hi ak219,

You can go over the following post for your preparations.

https://gmatclub.com/forum/how-to-get-6 ... 64327.html.

https://gmatclub.com/forum/gmat-how-to- ... fl=similar

These will be more than sufficient to prepare you for your exam.

Further to practice, you also have some arguments in the OG that you can go over to better prepare yourself for your exam. If you feel you want some more help, you can go over the MGMAT AWA guide which gives you detailed understanding of the AWA section on the GMAT.

Hope this helps. All the best!

Thanks for the responses. I have already looked at the materials provided here but I was wondering if there are any steps before those? Having a template is one but what if I cannot really come up with my own ideas why an argument is flawed for example

There's nothing to be embarrassed about. Maybe you just focussed more on other topics and it's a good thing.

So most ppl can rock AWA by doing these two things.
1: Just remember and practice the chineseburned AWA template.
2 : watch Gmatprepnow video on AWA (YouTube)

So first stop searching more do these two the things and start practicing..if you still think you need improvement, then search for different topics on GMATCLUB. All the best.

Hi ak219,

First off, I agree that there is nothing to be embarrassed about here. That said, could you provide an example or two of AWA prompts that have been causing you issues? If we can see exactly where you are going wrong, perhaps we can provide some more detailed advice.

I think my question should be - how do I learn to recognize if there are flaws in the argument given? Because from what I have learnt, its about analysing why the given statement is wrong

Go through some of the AWA questions in this document and check how comfortable you are finding flaws in them. I think you'll find that it is not as hard as you might think, given that we generally don't need to discuss more than 2-3 flaws in our AWA essays.
