the best advice i received from a 2nd year whos going into banking about interview attire (this was for internship interviews but the same applies for b-school interviews): "treat your interview attire like a uniform. dark grey or navy blue suit. conservative tie. white or light blue shirt. no cufflinks, multicolored shirts, bowties, fancy designs, jewelry, etc.. just stick to the uniform and you'll be ok".

I think black suits are fine, I have interviewed with them many times (pinstriped) though.

do interviewers really care that much about what colors? its picking talents not best dressed.

yes, colors matter. its the corporate "uniform" for interviews. colors represent a lot about someone without them even knowing it.
stick with your charcoal/light gray or navy for interviews.

never owned cuff links... i would wear a black suit, black/blue shirt, black/gray pants and a tie...

on a side note, do people take off their suits once in the room or gonna wear it throughout? i kinda get nervous with suit on heh...

I'm no expert on men's business attire, but have seen enough to agree with prior posters - charcoal grey and navy blue are the classical colors for a suit (yes color of pants and jacket have to match). Stick with a white/light blue shirt, no cufflinks. Do not take jacket off unless invited to do so by interviewer (very unusual).

Just a random tip here. Wear dark socks. One guy waiting to interview was wearing white athletic socks. You don't want to be him.

Great that someone is giving advice on this space!

I will be wearing suit in color navy blue. Would it be too casual/non-conservative if I wear dark brown leather shoes? Black shoes don't seem to match my navy blue suit.

Thanks!

Good point. Also I've heard stories that IBers have been told that their socks are not high enough - you don't want to have any skin showing whatsoever.

Either buy socks with strong elastic staying power, or go old school. Just imagine, I bet both Johnny Pierpont Morgan and Johnny D Rockefeller, use to rock these babies!

Black shoes, as long as they are clean, conservative, and not square and have a matching belt, you should be fine with a blue suit. I personally wouldn't b/c I have better taste but its the more conservative route for sure. Black, brown, or cordovan go just fine with blue suits.

make sure your shoes match your belt. if you're going to wear brown shoes, then your belt better be brown as well. i personally prefer to just go with black shoes + belt.

@calvin: i'm just thinking out loud, but if black shoes don't match with your navy suit, then your suit might not be the right color and you might need to consider buying a new one. black shoes are pretty much a staple anywhere, and it's hard to believe that it doesn't go well with your suit.

If you go stripes, go very (VERY!) subtle. Bright stripes are garish.

I agree 100%, but not just in interview situations. In my opinion, loud stripes are always obnoxious. It reminds me of Dallas Raines and the terrible suits he wears https://www.crazyauntpurl.com/images/blo ... s-oct4.jpg
