Hello there, hope you're doing well.
Indian Male
Education :
2013 - 2016
Bachelors in Science - Hotel Management (Tier-1)
Score : 63% (Extra Ordinary life situations)
2018 - Ongoing (ends in June 2020)
Masters in Education - IGNOU (well respected Govt of India run distance education university)
Score : 75% (expected)
GMAT : 770
Age : 27 (January born)
Work Experience : Would be around 4 years by the time I apply in 2020.
July 2016 - May 2017
Restaurant Manager - $300,000 P&L role
Domino's Pizza
Was promoted once, attended one international conference in Malaysia. The job had become highly repetitive and I didn't feel like learning much, role wouldn't have really changed untill the next 2 promotions.
July 2017 - Feb 2018
Sport Leader - was responsible for taking care of business worth $1.3M along with 4 others. Work was entrepreneurial in nature (imaging owning a retail space in a big store).
Decathlon Sports - Retail vertical
No promotion, scope and speed of learning was not satisfactory.
June 2018 - Ongoing
Business Development Manager - Leading a team of 10 associates bringing over $1.2M of business.
Think & Learn Private Ltd.
Promoted once.
Think & Learn is a unicorn startup in the education technology industry and is by far the biggest player in India. Apparently, the highest valued edtech company in the world. Has just began to expand internationally.
Employment gaps are due to extra ordinary family situations including criminal threats to the life of my family, fighting court cases against criminals due to some VERY VERY serious crimes committed against us, father getting cancer twice, mother's depression with suicide attempts, in all complete financial and emotional breakdown of the family. All this has shaped my personality in a unique way and has taught me lots of Life Things that I can talk about in my Essays.
Extras :
- Active member at a mid sized non profit organisation helping unprivileged children in getting quality education. Work includes leading teams of volunteers, teaching classes, raising funds, managing small events.
- Beginner Mountaineer (have climbed multiple peaks over 20,000 feet)
- Ex Junior Cricketer, now, playing in the corporate leagues.
- Multilingual (4+1 languages)
Career Goal : Work as a Strategy Consultant at Mckinsey focusing on issues in the education sector.
Target Schools -
1. Wharton, Booth, MIT Sloan, Columbia, Kellogg (Assuming HBS stands too far, if not the current list of schools already does
)
2. Ross, Fuqua, Hass, Stern, Darden, INSEAD
Please evaluate my overall profile, request you to state if I've decent chances of getting in these schools with proper guidance and execution.

I'm very sorry to hear about the many family challenges that you've faced in your life. Framing those in the right way to admissions committees (AdComs) will be a crucial piece of your application puzzle. While you want to explain these circumstances clearly so that AdComs understand the adversity you've faced, you want to avoid sounding like you're making any excuses, and you also want to demonstrate how you've overcome these obstacles through persistence, hard work, etc.
In addition to the employment gaps, the other major concern with your resume is how much you've jumped around between different companies and different sectors. You studied hotel management and worked in food service, but then you jumped to sports retail, and now you've landed in an education start-up -- do you see how it's very difficult to connect the dots? You'll need to provide clear explanations for how and why you transitioned between these roles. Moreover, why do you now want to get an MBA? What specific elements of your history have led you to now want to attend business school? Why do you want to work for a firm like McKinsey?
Your GMAT is excellent, but with your lower undergraduate and graduate grades and your spotty work history, the Top 10 US MBA programs will most likely be a stretch for you (they're already a stretch for anybody!). This doesn't mean that you shouldn't apply, but it would be an uphill battle that would largely hinge on your personal essays and your letters of recommendation (which should ideally highlight your leadership potential and your performance ranking relative to your peers) to make up for your weaker academic credentials and inconsistent resume. How competitive you would be in the second group of schools that you listed will also depend on the above, but your 770 GMAT will carry some more weight in that group.
