Hi everyone!
I applied for several schools in R1 2020 and am expecting answers in the next few weeks (fingers crossed!). As excited as I am by this process, I have a slight concern regarding the background check.
Back in July I was promoted and was expecting a pay raise right after, and that is the compensation that I reflected on the application (I also showed what a person in my level would normally get in their annual bonus). However, due to Covid and other company concerns, my pay raise was deferred to December (so up to 2021), even though I am in a new position. In the background checks, I am sure that they will notice this difference.
My supervisor is willing to attest to this discrepancy, but I am very risk adverse and I'm concerned that this might be a problem in the background check, or if I should mention this information once I am accepted.

You are definitely being overly cautious!
The background check is not going to get in the nitty gritty details about bonuses and such. It is more or less a verification of your work experience, educational credentials and (hopefully lack of ) personal criminal record.
Even if an extremely unlikely discrepancy, such as the one you mentioned, comes up you have the backing of your supervisor who will provide a credible justification. I cannot fathom a situation where you would forfeit your acceptance on something subjective and minor, particularly in this bizarre year.
You have no need to preempt this issue by communicating it proactively. Let the process play itself out. I am sure you will be more than happy with the results.

Hey - Don't overthink at this point. If need be, they will ask you to justify and you can then do so
