Hi all,
Recently I was fortunate enough to receive admission from a European b-school that I have long been dreaming to go to.
I have been notified that, among many other things, the school will be going through a background check.
One problem.
Immediately after my rounds of b-school interviews, I was offered a new job with more responsibility and more pay,
and I decided to take it. I had explained to the firm beforehand that I might be attending b-school next year and
may have to leave the firm only after 9-12 months, and the firm was understanding and said it is fine.
Meanwhile, on my resume/MBA application, which I submitted a while back,
obviously, my new job (and the departure from my old one) is not listed.
Is this something I need to personally call up the Adcom and inform them about?
Or is it fine because as of the date of my application submission, all the information was true?
Would it by any chance negatively reflect upon my application, and result in,
the worst case, cancellation of my admissions? (note that I have already received admissions letter..)
Maybe I'm being a little paranoid, but at this point I don't want to take chances or overlook any risks. Thank you.

Hi, I do not think you should be worried at all.
A background check is to confirm the claims you made in your applications, and verify facts. As long as you did not lie about your past, you are fine.
A School should have no problems with how you calibrated your future after the submissions as long as you did not commit a felony.
If your past dates, and designations will match what you stated in the apps, you should do okay I believe.

To be honest, I think it’s not the actual goal that can be considered dull, but the rest of your story. Just imagine what an odd thing would it be if business schools only admitted applicants who had a grand idea about their future?
Not everyone can be a world-leading entrepreneur, and not everyone wants to. I’ve seen applicants who simply wanted to give back to their own communities, or eventually work out the kinks in their existing family business.
So, don’t try to come up with a grand future goal. Instead, work on the narration of your goals story. introspect and find out why you selected a particular goal. Recently, one of our applicants got into MIT Sloan. The adcoms reached out to simply tell him how interesting his essays and his goals story was. he had an ordinary goal, like you or any other MBA applicant. but his story truly was interesting, and the narration did justice to that.
The result was his MIT Sloan admit.
Also, manipulating facts on your MBA application is never a good idea.
