Just remember that the test center experience will always be quite a bit different from your home. The screen size, keyboard, mouse, noise, lighting, temperature, etc.

I had pretty similar experience - the screen was quite a bit bigger than what I was used to and it was a bit blurry. I chose to sit further away and that helped. (The funny thing is I forgot that until you brought it up)...crazy.

PS. I always wondered about the consistency of the test centers and my guess is they are not the same but they have pretty similar setup at the end of the day and similar screen sizes though likely not the same.

I faced same problem. I had practiced on small laptop screen. It took me a lot of time to adjust to big screen during exam. This affected my Verbal score badly.
I think we need to practice on big screens to get used to it

I did the old order with verbal last and I think by that time I adjusted but I did think the screen was perverted. That’s the best description I can think of and nobody would ever set it that way. But then i got used to it by the time Verbal came.... bummer.

Took the exam at the green park centre, delhi.Faced similar problem but was skeptical whether the screen's size was the real culprit. However, when I retook the exam after a much better preparation the result was the same. There was a difference of 40-50 marks between Gmat practice exam and actual exam both the times. The large size of the screen effected my pacing and focus.
Is there any centre in ncr region where the size of the screen is smaller?
Thanks

Well, I think that was one factor. Could you read a folder-size book as fast as reading a pocket size book with the same content?

It actually sounds funny but it’s true. It impacts reading comprehension and reading speed. Unless you will sit far away from the screen, as bb did.

I gave my exam there. It was my first and i must say that the screen was huge compared to my laptops 13". Personally, i think it must have affected my pacing since i had to move my head for a little longer time and plus the effort required to do it which i was not used to of.
During the formalities outside the silent cabins i could see people giving exam but never anticipated that the screens are so big would cause such annoyance.

I haven't seen any other centre in NCR. Preparing again.

Your story is quite unique.

But have you heard some stories from other members that doing exam in the morning or at late afternoon makes considerable score difference? I actually find these stories quite related to me. As for me, I took my first gmat (starting) at 5pm and scored 620. Exactly 60 days after (and of course, more preps) , I took a second gmat (starting) at 7.30am and scored 580. I immediately cancelled it. Since then, I always took gmat at the same test centre closest to my home and not earlier than 9am. Perhaps, test centre location and test timing could also affect your gmat performance.

Just to reflect on your side, did you do your practice tests roughly at the same time with your real test? How sensitive you are to a room where you are studying or working

Hi ardenjorata,

First off, a 680/Q49 is a strong Score, so it could be enough to get you into your first-choice School. As such, a retest might not be necessary. While it's certainly possible that the size of the computer monitor impacted your performance, it would be questionable to assume that that was the only factor in your drop in score.

Assuming that you plan to retake the GMAT, before I can offer you any advice for this next phase of your studies, it would help if you could provide a bit more information on how you've been studying and your goals:

Studies:
1) How long have you studied? How many hours do you typically study each week?
2) What study materials have you used so far?
3) On what dates did you take EACH of your CATs/mocks and how did you score on EACH (including the Quant and Verbal Scaled Scores for EACH)?

Goals:
4) What is your overall goal score?
5) When are you planning to apply to Business School?
6) What Schools are you planning to apply to?

Sounds as though you are not the only person who has faced this issue. Are you able to find a larger monitor to use for your practice exams? If so, you could use it to become accustomed to dealing with a larger screen, perhaps by sitting farther away from the screen than you sit normally. Also, when do you plan to retake the GMAT?

Thank you, EMPOWERgmatRichC

1. I've been studying for 3-4 months already, 1-3 hours everyday (but there were days when I was not able to study at all because of my work)
2. I used OG 2019, eGMAT Verbal, and GMATClub's question bank
3. I took my first 2 CATs 2 months ago, scored 680, 690 (with Q50 and Q51). Next CATs were all atleast 720 (770 max) with Q only either 50 or 51
4. I want 740+, but I'll proceed with my application with atleast 700.
5. Round 2 this year (my deadline is to finish and submit my application before the year ends)
6. Stanford, Wharton, MIT, and Columbia

My worry now is I have taken all GMATPrep Tests. Not sure yet what practice tests I should use as an alternative.

I'm confident with my overall profile (college GPA, work experience, recommendation letter, and essay/story); I just don't want my GMAT score to look like a hole in my application.

I'm planning to retake on the 30th of September.

Thank you.

Hi ScottTargetTestPrep Thanks for the response.

I'm planning to retake on September 30.

I called the test center and reported the big screen. I ask them if they can give me a smaller screen on my retake, and they said "Yes". Apparently, there were many test takers who requested the same. No need to buy big monitor. :)

I have the same problem!! Thought was just me.
I did the GMAT twice and my score is much lower than the ones I do at home because of the size of the screen.
It is hard to concentrate on the whole picture and takes me several questions until my brain get used.

To prove it, I am training with a very big monitor at home and my scores continue being lower... I get tired faster, seems that my eyes suffle. It´s very frustrating... we should have the option to adjust the screen.
