Official Explanation

That is short for The fact that, and fact is the true subject of the sentence. The underlined portion of the sentence acts as the subject of the sentence, that is, the underlined portion “does not signify . . ..” The omission of The fact from choice (E) is another example of an ellipsis (the omission of a word or words from a sentence). None of the other choices can act as the subject of the sentence.

The correct answer is (E).

I chose E over A because It jut felt more right to me.

I see a reasoning for Parallelism. Any other approaches?
Hi TheNightKing,

We don't want to use a because clause as the subject of a sentence.

Because he agrees with you does not signify that his reasons are the same as yours.
