Over crowded ...... and ...... beyond their capacity are redundant.

Confused between D and E. I would go with D.. E is sort of changing the meaning.

What is "Because of the flood of immigrants between 1905 and 1910"?

SB's

overcrowded means beyond capacity. C is out

D remains

Going with D

proper use of idiom so x that y

Also I think that preposition on the lower East Side is properly used to place the noun.

I thought of E because its shorter however lower East Side school buildings seems like a very long modifier

yeah D. prefer "school buildings on the lower East Side" over "lower East Side school buildings".

another tough one.

A--> overcrowded + beyond their capacity = redundancy
B--> same as A
C--> same as A
D--> "Because...,school building on the lower East Side..." seems more concise
E--> "lower East Side school building" though tricky, is too long to digest

How E changes the ,meaning ?????

One can read it as "lower East Side school buildings".....this is very different from "school buildings on lower East Side".

Hence, D is correct.

"lower East Side school buildings were so overcrowded" --> It sounds more like as if we are pointing to the lower east side of school building ..... where as int he origial SC the author wanna say .. school building on lower side.
