Hi sank,

Your studies so far have been 'book-heavy', but that type of approach is usually not enough to get a Test Taker to a 700+ score. As such, you'll probably need to invest in some new, non-book resources.

You mentioned wanting to take the GMAT by the end of November, and with your last GMAT score, you could very well hit your score goals by then. I'd like to know a bit more about your overall timeline and plans:

1) What Business Schools are you planning to apply to?
2) What are the exact application deadlines for those Schools?

Could you please elaborate on what you meant by "non-book resources"? I hoping to manage a good score in 60 days but need a structured approach with materials.

I am planning to apply to colleges like UCLA, Cox, Ross (Michigan). Honestly, haven't really planned for the colleges yet, it will be picked up after I get the GMAT score. As for deadlines, most schools I am targeting have Round 2 deadline in January '16.

Hi sank,

I absolutely agree that you would benefit from a more structured approach - in that regard, a GMAT Course of some type would probably be the best option for you. The proper "non-book" study resources are essentially online resources that mimic what you'll experience on Test Day. There are plenty to choose from too. Most GMAT Companies offer some type of free materials (practice problems, Trial Accounts, videos, etc.) that you can use to 'test out' a product before you buy it. We have a variety of those resources at out site (www.empowergmat.com). I suggest that you take advantage of all of them then choose the one that best matches your personality, timeline and budget.

If you have any additional question, then just let me know.

Hi Guys,

I am based in Mumbai and planning to write GMAT by November end '15. I haven't really managed to kick start my preparation; I did try self studying but don't seem to get much improvement. I am trying various study materials which is consuming a lot of time.

Hence, I am considering joining an online coure. I have considered eGMAT and CrackVerbal as they focus the preparation for non-natives. I focussing more on verbal as that's my main area of weakness. I have written a diagnostic test and just managed a 590 (V24 Q46). I wrote GMAT in April and got 640 (1 month self study) , so the target score this time is 700+.
I also need CAT but that i available in most courses I think.

So, in your opinion which course would be most suited for my 2 month study plan? Or should I just stick with self study and focus.
Thanks a lot.

Hey Sank,

Here is a customized 2-3 month study plan that can help boost your score: https://www.gmatpill.com/gmat-practice-t ... study-plan

Use this as a guideline. You don’t have to follow it exactly but the structure of the study plan should be the same structure that you take in your approach. This helps to optimize your retention and learning.

As you study, we recommend that you focus on one particular subsection for multiple consecutive days before moving onto the next. You can see this in our study plan where we recommend 5 days on nothing but SC -- before moving onto CR and then RC.

Here is a sample SC video to help you start your journey: https://www.gmatpill.com/sentencecorrect ... ythons.mp4

Best of luck- we are here to help.

When you choose a resource, make sure to choose one which helps you with the right aspects for your GMAT preparation. As GMAT mainly tests your application skills, the resource you choose must help you with:
  • Concepts
  • Methodology (Very important)
  • Practice questions
  • Their detailed solutions

So, you first learn the concepts of a particular topic, then learn the methodology to solve questions of that topic and only then practice questions to solidify your learning. This is how you go about your GMAT preparation. The resource you choose must make your prep a lot more structured and effective.

And one more important thing to look for in a course is the study plan. To make your prep effective, you need to be really consistent. So, a study plan will help you to be consistent. Having said that, you cannot follow a study plan which doesn't suit you. For example, a person who can dedicate just 3 hours a day cannot have the same study plan as a person who can dedicate 6 hours a day. So, the study plan has to be personalized. And not just that, it's important to have the right guidance from the mentor because students often get stuck in the middle of their prep and do not understand how to proceed further.

You can go through the article below to understand how to choose an online course

Key factors to consider while choosing an online course for GMAT

The best way to choose an online course is to check the free trials of the courses and then decide which suits you the most. I suggest you to check the free trial of GMATWhiz and then take a decision. It provides you with a personalized study plan by taking into account the number of hours you can dedicate for studies in a week. It focuses mainly on the application of concepts and has detailed solutions for the questions which helps you to learn the right methodology. And a dedicated mentor will be assigned to the student once he/she enrolls for the course. The student can get in touch with the mentor once in every 15 days to seek guidance on how to proceed further.

Hope it helped.
