The bad news is that all of the Pearson testing centers are pretty much identical, and they carefully regulate earbuds and anything else that you might want to bring into the exam. They'll give you a set of sound-canceling headphones and some cheap earplugs, but I'm pretty certain that they won't let you bring your own earbuds. Sorry.
I've been to the Herald Square (Broadway & 34th) center a couple of times, and had really good experiences--the main proctor was a friendly, funny guy, and I think that the center might actually have windows if I remember correctly. The blinds are always drawn, but even a little hint of natural light makes me happy.
But I don't think that it really matters too much--you'll have nearly identical experiences at any of the NY/NJ test centers. Good luck, and please say hello to the PATH train and NJ Transit for me.
