Dear All,

I am an indian applicant who scored a 710 on my first attempt at GMAT (V39, Q48). I would however like to take the GMAT again to scale it put to 750-760 as my GPA was only 2.8/4 in undergrad. I took tuition the first time.

I would like to give the GMAT again in 2 months time and currently being in Dubai I am finding it difficult to find the right tutor hence I feel it will be better to take an online course which will help me refresh my concepts and help me upscale my score by providing me a schedule and process to follow as this has been my biggest problem. I have tried self study couple of times but not able to find the right approach to studying again.

I would like to focus on Quants more this time as I believe I can get this 48 to 50-51 if I get the right material and the right approach. for verbal I will be going through Manhattan but I am not sure if I wanna do OG again as I have already done it once and would probably remember some of the questions.

I would really appreciate if the GMAT gurus can advice me on the right course I can subscribe to and ace the GMAT. for me it will be really important to gauge my everyday performance and improvement to keep me working hard and keep me on track.

Hi Anshuman Tiwari,

First off, a 710/Q48 is an outstanding score (it's right around the 90th percentile overall), so you should apply to any Business School that interests you. By extension, a retest is probably not necessary.

Do you know which Business Schools you plan to apply to (and when?)? If you do, then you would likely find it beneficial to speak with an Admissions Expert about your overall profile. There's a Forum full of them here:

If you're certain that you want to retest, you're going to have to do more than just focus on Quant to hit a 750+ (the missing points from that section won't be enough to raise a 710 to a 750).

Thanks for the reply.. the reason i want to retake the GMAT is because i have a low GPA of 2.8/4 . My schools are listed below:

Sloan
Kellog
Berkeley
Fuqua
Anderson's
Johnson
Mccombs
Tepper
USC marshall


I believe if I can make my Q48 V39 to a Q50 V41 then I can have the score I want. I believe online prep course will give me the discipline that I need to prepare thoroughly for the exam.

I did ask for Admisson consultant replies but havent got a revert yet on my profile.

Hi gmattiwariansh,

You've named a variety of competitive and respectable Programs, so a strong OVERALL application will help you more than raising an outstanding GMAT score a couple of points. While you can't really do anything about your GPA, you CAN 'overshadow' it with some well-written Essays and properly 'selling' your Work Experience. Before you make any decisions though, let's see what the Admissions Experts have to say - unless they clearly state the retesting is a must, then you should probably put your energies into other aspects of your application.
