hey guys,

I've already scored a 690 in my gmat. I'm looking to break 700.

There are several online prep courses (Kaplan, Princeton Review, Mahattan GMAT, Veritas etc). I was wondering if any of them are actually worthwhile? Especially for someone who has already done the test once.

Any of you have experience with any of those?

hey guys,

I've already scored a 690 in my gmat. I'm looking to break 700.

I don't think a prep course would make sense for you, as your score is already very high. How throroughly did you prepare?

I studied for less than a month for a total between 25 to 30 hours. I only did the 2 mba.com online tests as practice so I know I have room for improvement. Kaplan has a (off-line) Advanced gmat class for people who previously scored in the 600's. That is interesting but I can't attend it since I'm an international student. so I am looking for some rigorous advanced online classes that would perhaps be beneficial. From what the people here say MGMAT is the best but like you said, I'm not sure how useful that would be for me.

I'm confused.. Any suggestions?

Hi FooFighter,

given what you just said, i.e you studied for less than a month, you have done well. I think a course won't do you any favours. I recommend prepping a bit more using things like GMATClub Challenges, focused study for your weak areas in verbal and of course thorough participation on the forums for another month and a half.

I believe by doing a course you will be throwing away the $$$

If you wanna pay money - get the MGMAT books, they come with 6 tests. Also get the gmatclub challanges and the LSAT superprep. Those things would improve your skills more than a course.

Agreed not only do I see little worth to a test prep, I'd ask yourself how much time you want to put into another go 'round at the GMAT. I don't think there is a lot of difference between 690-720 so you need to be able to bump that score up a lot. You might find that consistantly scoring higher is harder than getting a little lucky on test day.

What was your breakdown of your score.

There is a lot of info on OG11 and the MGMAT prep books. I'm sure the tests that the GMAT Club offers are also very solid. I plan on getting that as well in the next month.

690 is impressive. Will the additional $250 matter? If it's borderline getting into a better school and you KNOW the GMAT score difference will help, then rock it out!

Thanks for all the great advice guys. Much appreciated :)

I got 37 in verbal and 48 in quant. considering im an intl student with an engineering background working as a financial analyst, its totally logical. I guess I can push my quant to 50 but the verbal is where i can really bump my score.

as for how thoroughly did i prepare. I just completed the Princeton Review gmat book and the 2 free sample exams from mba.com. I studied for a total of 25-30 hours

What woudl be the best book/prep material to boost my verbal score? would mgmat help?

I've also started reading the gmatclub gmat threads and they are quite useful
