Thank you guys!

What about deciphering a pattern/trick/something else in a question that one can absolutely solve yet unable to solve when working on a question? It's happened to me so many times: you know the content, you overall know what needs to be done - but you just simply can't solve until you read the explanation and say "ohhh....I should have done that!".

Hi HWPO,

From the various subjects that we have discussed over the course of this year, I think that your overall content knowledge is good. The GMAT is NOT a 'memory test' though - it's a big 'critical thinking test'; as such, to earn a high Score on the GMAT, the Exam requires that you have a number of different skills. If you're not seeing how to 'start off' certain types of prompts, then it's possible that you just haven't focused on THOSE skills yet. If your current study materials aren't helping you to hone that part of the Test-taking process, then continuing to use those same materials isn't the solution that you're looking for.

At the core, you're probably dealing with at a lack of consistent, proper note-taking. How often do you end up reading the prompt 2-3 times before you actually start doing work on your pad?

My personal rule is that I don't look at the explanation until I have come up with a way to answer the question, even if it takes hours or days to figure out how to answer the question.

See this post for some more insights regarding taking such an approach. https://gmatclub.com/forum/gmat-success ... 67394.html

Really depends on the question, but it does happen often - usually in long-word problems.

MartyTargetTestPrep , I think this is an overall good strategy. Yet my concern is what happens if you have 10 Qs you can't solve and those take you more than 30min each to figure until you fully understand how to solve (or not....) ? Now, if it's only 10 Qs - so be it! Go for it and make sure you dam* understand. But usually it is not just 10 Qs. Would you still spend hours over hours figuring out each and every question you got wrong?

Definitely, because I want to learn through the process. The idea is not to check the box by completing X number of questions. It's to learn, and also, the point is not just to figure out the questions you got incorrect. The idea is to take your time and get them correct in the first place.
