Let Alan be x years old.
Beth = x -12
In 20 years :
Alan = x + 20
Beth = x - 12 + 20 = x + 8.
As per the question :
(x + 20) 0.8 = x + 8
0.8x + 16 = x + 8
0.2x = 8
2 x = 80
x = 40.
Beth = 40 -12 = 28
D is our answer.
