Don't know what took me 9 minutes to solve this one.

For 40 hrs === $20
For 1 hr === $0.5
Overtime for 1 hr = \(\frac{1}{6}\)th more than gross ---> (1+\(\frac{1}{6}\))*0.5 = $\(\frac{3.5}{6}\)

To get 23, he will work for 40 hrs, earning him $20. For remaining $3.5,
$\(\frac{3.5}{6}\) = overtime for 1 hr
$3.5 = overtime for ? hr
Solving this gives us 6 hrs.
So he works 40+6 = 46 hrs.

Hence D.

Hi..

Ofcourse it is above 600 level...

AkshayKS21, a slight logic will make it LESS time consuming..

He earns $20 for 40 hour, but now he earns $23.5..
So $3.5 extra.

But he gets 1/6th more so 7/6 of normal..
So in normal he would earn $3.5*6/7=$3..
If 20 in 40 hour..
3 in 3*40/20=6 hour..

Total 40+6=46 HR
