why is D wrong...
A) - misplaced modfiers..
E) - misplaced modfiers
B) - sentence ending is awkward

But why is D wrong.

ambiguous pronoun 'it', which seems to be reflecting to reflection rather than the crevasse

by that logic even C is wrong. In C also it can be ambigous.

C) The crevasse was all but invisible to the climbers blinded by the sun's reflection until they nearly stumbled into it.

(D) Nearly stumbling into the crevasse, the climbers, blinded by the sun's reflection, found it all but invisible.

Can anyone please tell why C is better than D.

IMO, in D, the meaning of the sentence changes a little bit. It cjhanges the sequence of two things in the sentence. As per the original sentence, the act of nearly stumbling into crevasse occurs before the climebers finally started seeing the crevasse. D gives an impression that even after nearly stumbling into the crevasse, it was invisible to the climbers. But that is not the case. As explained above, the climbers started seeing the crevasse after nearly stumbling into it.

I still maintain its B ..even though this option has an ugly end ..
I option C it can refer to the reflections as well ..

not sure whether the answer posted above is correct
