For those of you interested in the game industry, the link below offers some of the best books on this topic. Please have a look:

http://uk.ps3.ign.com/articles/114/1142241p1.html

For perhaps a more business-economic oriented approach, which applies to many other related fields, be sure to also check out Information Rules, by Shapiro and Varian. The book is slightly dated, but its insights certainly apply to video games (the work actually applies some of its concepts to Nintendo, Atari, and Sony).

And if you have any other books to add to the list, please do so!

Problem is that the game industry is currently undergoing severe disruption from mobile and web.

Will smartphones replace handhelds?
Will the nintendo license model die a death due to App Store models that encourage indie develoeprs?
Will virtual goods (freemium) disrupt traditional subscription based models?
How will current console/PC game developers evolve to meet these new challenges?

Probably one of the most important game designers ever. I'm a biased superfan of his work on Ultima Online in the early days.
