The Booth MBA school hosted a Washington DC student led event on July 27th. It was hosted at Hudson Restaurant in DC and there were five current Booth students present.
Highlights
-Relaxed event with food and drink, just talking with current students, no admissions office reps
-Booth has about 12 current students interning in the DC area
-Less than 10% of students live on campus, most live around the Loop in downtown area, just a 30-minute public transit ride to campus
-Since there is no cohort structure, and you choose where you want to focus, you get more learning team groups to participate in for each class
-People mix about 1/3 married/serious relationships, 1/3 causal/semi-serious relationships, 1/3 single, Thanksgiving timeframe is the break-up cut off
-Students I talked to were in strategy at a hospitality company and in consulting, both said Booth set them up with a CEO-level mentor when they got into the school
-Not just finance, international MBA is a good option, and the marketing offerings are robust
-Global trips are great, usually about 15 people a trip, best way to start developing strong relationships
Would say this event is much more helpful in understanding the culture and people of the school versus the standard MBA info sessions.
