Essays – Full-time MBA Program
Essay 1. Describe your decision to pursue an MBA degree, highlighting the following:
a. Your motivation for pursuing an MBA degree at this point in your career (250 words);
b. Your reason for choosing to apply to Boston University and the specific program that you have chosen, i.e. MS·MBA, Health Sector MBA, Public and Nonprofit MBA, or One-Year International MBA (250 words);
c. Your plan to leverage your professional and academic experiences to achieve your post-MBA career goals (250 words)

Full-time MBA Options: Tailor your studies to your professional pursuits
Two-Year MBA
Boston University’s full-time MBA offers an opportunity for you to immerse yourself in School of Management and MBA student life, and to hone and expand your current skill set.

It's a chance to stretch yourself, to choose classes in subjects you have never taken before (including courses offered outside the School of Management). Learn from the experts; study with professors who are outstanding teachers and highly respected in their field. Choose the electives that will help differentiate you from the competition.

The full-time MBA program is a two-year interactive learning experience addressing the dynamics of global business. In the first year, you'll be assigned to a cohort: a group of 50-55 students who take core courses together. You'll work together on assignments and projects, often coordinated between courses.

MS/MBA: Two Degrees in 21 Months
Boston University founded the MS•MBA in 2001 to address the needs of employers seeking the next generation of business leaders. Now, about half of our full-time students pursue this unique curriculum. In the same 21-month time frame as the regular MBA program, MS•MBA students earn two degrees: a traditional MBA with a concentration, and a Master of Science in Information Systems.

Forward-thinking business leaders know that only those who understand technology truly understand business.

The MS•MBA isn’t just about technology, but about leveraging technology from a managerial and strategic perspective. You’ll find that this perspective is highly sought by any organization that recruits MBAs, since information technology has become inextricably linked to every organizational dynamic.

One-Year International MBA
The International MBA immerses you in a multicultural learning community. At the program's start in Beijing you're assigned to a team of fellow students. You and your teammates collaborate on class projects, exchange ideas, and challenge each other with diverse ways of thinking, doing, and leading.

Teamwork extends beyond course work; you live with your classmates and down the hall from School of Management faculty and staff.

When you return to Boston, you engage in further collaborative work, through BU's unique Team Learning approach.

  • Start with a summer in Beijing and Shanghai, China. Combine intensive classwork, multicultural teamwork, and visits to Beijing's and Shanghai's great corporations and cultural landmarks.
  • Complete the MBA in Boston, USA. Starting in the fall, complete your MBA at Boston University School of Management.
  • Earn your MBA 40% faster. Complete your MBA in only 12 months, matriculating in May and finishing as early as May of the following year.

Students enrolled in the One-Year International MBA earn a Masters in Business Administration (MBA) with the ability to add on a concentration in International Management, Marketing, Entrepreneurship, Finance, Operations & Tech Management or Strategy and Business Analysis Policy. The program combines a rigorous core business curriculum with elective courses.

Health Sector MBA
Students enrolled in the Health Sector MBA Program earn a Masters in Business Administration (MBA) with an additional certificate in health sector management. The program combines a rigorous core business curriculum with elective courses in health sector management, a required Summer internship, and an engaged alumni community of graduates.

Public & Nonprofit MBA
The Public & Nonprofit Management Program (PNP), founded in 1975, is designed for students who seek to use core business management skills to address society's most challenging humanitarian and social problems in the global economy. Whether you plan to work in the government, nonprofit, or private sector, this course of study will prepare you with the financial, operational, leadership, and entrepreneurial skills to lead and manage in today's changing environment.

Students enrolled in the Public & Nonprofit Management MBA Program earn a Masters in Business Administration (MBA) with a specialization in public and nonprofit management. The program combines a rigorous core business curriculum with elective courses in public and nonprofit management, a required Summer internship, and an engaged alumni community of graduates.

International Field Seminars
International Field Seminars are offered to those graduate students who seek to learn outside the classroom and beyond the book. Students begin their studies in a Boston classroom with preliminary research and complete the program abroad, speaking with the CEOs and managers of the most relevant companies and organizations in the area.

The travel leg of the program lasts about two weeks, and the program fee, in addition to the standard tuition, covers intra-continental travel, lodging, breakfasts, and local transport, as well as site admissions and guided tours. Students will go on-site to companies and organizations that represent core concepts students study in the months leading up to the trip. In addition to hands-on learning, students are given ample time in the evening and on weekends to explore the culture of the destination countries.

Field Seminars are offered in the following locations:
  • Brazil - This program examines the business model(s) of social enterprises that are meeting the needs of emerging markets while addressing societal challenges such as access to health care and maintaining a sustainable environment. The group will visit global and domestic companies, social enterprises and nongovernmental organizations (NGOs).
  • Europe - This program will include visits to businesses and government organizations and lectures from European specialists. The seminar will cover a broad range of topics, including macro economic policy, finance, marketing and advertising, international trade, and business culture.
  • India - This program explores the rapidly changing global forces of the health sector as they intersect with the dynamics of an emerging country. The field study program will include visits to government agencies, hospitals, pharmaceutical companies, health sector start-up companies, health centers, research laboratories, and academic research settings.
  • Asia - How do we prepare for the emerging opportunities and challenges that China's economic development and Asia's growing presence continue to create? This seminar through six cities in China and Korea provides future global business leaders with an opportunity to contemplate answers to the above question.

Customize your MBA Experience with Concentrations
Concentrations are open to students in the MBA, Health Sector Management, Public & Nonprofit Management, and MS•MBA programs. Students are encouraged to apply for concentrations during their second semester to take full advantage of the many activities sponsored by the respective departments and institutes. Applying for a concentration does not obligate a student to complete the requirements nor will it appear on their transcripts. Students who successfully complete the requirements for one or more concentrations receive a Certificate of Concentration upon graduation.
