Both Robert and Yvonne can translate news summaries from French into English and from English into French, but at different rates in documents per hour, as shown below:
.............French to English........English to French
Robert...........5..............................1..........................
Yvonne..........2..............................6..........................
This week, they have to translate in total 50 news summaries from French to English and 150 news summaries from English to French. They cannot work on any new summaries together, nor can either work when the other is not working, except when there is only one document left to be translated. What is the difference between the maximum and minimum number of hours that Yvonne could spend working this week?
(A) 20 hours and 50 minutes (B) 22 hours and 30 minutes (C) 22 hours and 40 minutes (D) 24 hours and 10 minutes (E) 24 hours and 30 minutes
max hours: when Y works on F-E and R works on E-F:
when Y finishes the whole F-E in 25 hours, R sinishes 25 E-F.
for remaining (150 -25 = 125) E-F, they, each, take 125/7 = 17 hours but there still remain 6 E-F summaries in which Y finishes 5 in 50 minuets.
so the max time taken by Y = 25 + 17.5 = 42.5 hours
min hours: when R works on F-E and Y works on E-F:
when R finishes the whole F-E in 10 hours, Y finishes 60 E-F.
for remaining (150 - 60 = 90) E-F, they, each, take 90/7 = 12 hours. again there remain 6 E-F summaries in which Y finishes 5 in 50 minuets.
so the min time taken by Y = 10 + 12.5 = 22.5 hours
diff = 42.5 - 22.5 = 20 hours
didi i miss something???????
