hey guys I read a thread about gifts to recommenders, so I bought a bottle of scotch but he's irish.. should I have gotten Irish whiskey? it's not some sort of an insult is it?

I am 1/2 Irish (although I am 3rd Generation) and I would prefer Jack Daniels to all Irish Whiskey, although Bushmills is pretty silly! I would not worry. As I recall at all my family gatherings on my mom's side (the Irish side), they are not picky of what they are drinking as long as they are drinking!!!

I played St. Patrick in my thespian debut (3rd grade play).

I will always be partially Irish. I prefer Coke with my Jack and Jameson to do shots.

lhotseface could not have said it any better, good scotch is good, no matter where one is from.

if its a really exp bottle, i would gift it to him and then ask him to open it, so as to share!

Yeah...ask him to open it
Reminds me of my graduate school days..I and my roommate would go to parties with a 6-pack and end up drinking 12 beers.

I am not surprised. this forum is representative of a B school class: 70% males and 30% females.

You figure you post something about booze or women, you are bound to get immediate hits!

Uh, I don't mean to point out the obvious, but scotch, good or otherwise, is only from one place, Scotland. But a good quality scotch is a good and appropriate gift for any situation (except for someone graduating from a 12 step program I guess).

When I said, "no matter where one is from", I was talking about the recipeint not the scotch.

Thanks for the insight though!

To an irishman, you must present Jameson-Irish whiskey. Also write Garmahagat on the card. It means thanks in Gaelic.
Believe me he/she will be flattered.

Garmahagat ? I was lost in translation for a moment.

Garma haga....means S-hit in the House in hindi slang :)

I know my reply is late, but IMHO, any booze fancier than a six-pack qualifies as a decent gift. Red wine, scotch, bourbon, cognac, whatever.

I'd love some single malts, where I to choose a gift, but they can be quite expensive.

Cheers. L.
