I think the Bold point in this Passage is the sentence that explains thermal device uses the same symbol system as Braille does.
So everyone who can discriminate Braille notes is also able to discriminate similar patterns on a flat heated surface.
Thus my choice would be C

Braille is a method of producing text by means of raised dots that can be read by touch. A recent development in technology will allow flat computer screens to be made of a material that can be heated in patterns that replicate the patterns used in Braille. Since the thermal device will utilize the same symbol system as Braille, it follows that anyone who is accustomed to reading Braille can easily adapt to the use of this electronic system.

Which of the following is an assumption on which the conclusion depends?

(A) Braille is the only symbol system that can be readily adapted for use with the new thermal screen.
--> out of scope.

(B) Only people who currently use Braille as their sole medium for reading text will have the capacity to adapt to the use of thermal screen.
--> first only is strong word. it does not have to be people currently using Braille. out.

(C) People with the tactile ability to discriminate symbols in Braille have an ability to discriminate similar patterns on a flat heated surface.
--> This assumption is necessary. If people with the tactile ability can't discriminate similar pattern, then the conclusion is not convincing.

(D) Some symbol systems encode a piece of text by using dots that replicate the shape of letters of the alphabet.
--> out of some. "some symbol system" does not need to be in our consideration.

(E) Eventually it will be possible to train people to read Braille by first training them in the use of the thermal screen.
--> the argument assumes that training is not needed.

IMO, the negation of C tells that they 'do not have the ability', which means they can't be taught as well.
Negation of E tells us 'it will not be possible to train them', for this we need to make one more assumption that they don't know it naturally. Thus C over E.

Answer C

The argument explains that “Braille” is a system of raised dots that can be read / understood by touch (feel), and that a new computer screen will replicate the Braille using heated dots.

The stimulus concludes that anyone who is habitual to reading Braille can easily adapt to use the computer screen.

The stimulus assumes without a concrete reason that heated dots will work just as well as raised dots. Since we are asked to identify a necessary assumption, we should focus on linking raised dots to heated dots.

Option C:
This is the correct answer choice.
The argument assumes that what people can sense by raised-dot patterns, they can also sense by heated patterns. (Discriminate = Recognize).
