Hi folks,
If you live in India or are from India, can you tell me whether an MBA from UT Austin (Mccombs School of Business) has any brand recognition/significance in the industry in India?
Any thoughts\experiences that you may have on this are much appreciated!
Thanks!

I agree with abhijit.
I am an Indian who did his MS from UT, and has lived in austin for 5 years now, well 6 years (time flies ...huh) - I did not consider applying to UT for the full time program. It is a good school, good program, but does not have the brand name in India, and not within US as well. but thats strictly my opinion, and I'm not saying that one cannot get top jobs after graduating from here; that certainly is possible, and I have examples of people who have done that by self-networking etc.
But chances are that one will end up in the tech. industry this area is known for, doing strategy, corporate finance, marketing, product management etc. in Intel/IBM/Freescale/AMD/TI/start-ups .. which are good jobs too, with good $$ and career progression. It will be more difficult to get consulting, IB etc.
Anyway, I detracted from your question, I hold the belief that the school does not hold much more than a 'US MBA' reputation in India. I'll give you an example -
one of my close relations, who is an executive in an investment bank in Dubai, and who has been motivating me to go to a 'good' school, had not heard of UT Austin .. After UEs, I've only heard him talk about Ross/Cornell/Stern/Duke/UCalifornia schools ... and he does hire graduates from these places. I know one person's opinion is not representative, but I gave a relevant example I knew. And I did not ask 'what do you want to do' question, which is very practical and one should be clear about, but I surmised primarily you want to return to India with a great offer at hand.
I'm sure you are thinking where am I going
.. and when I tell you that, you will regret reading my post, thinking I'm a nutcase
;
Well I did not get in any of the 'branded' schools.., I will be posting a 'good-bye' gmat club post soon(just started drafting it earlier today). Not apping. next year for personal reasons, I am actually apping. to Mccombs for the evening program! The evening program is pretty popular amongst the techies in my company - its a good compromise for someone who lives in austin and has given up hopes on elite jobs, hedge funds and stellar salaries, or is content with the jobs I wrote above, the best way to put it. (or may be he still hopes, but knows it is very difficult to get there = me).
