Try to identify more than one solution approach to a question.

Hope that helps!

Hi everyone,
I’ve been stuck around Q78 on the GMAT Focus Edition Quant section despite consistent study and strong fundamentals. From my experience, the key to moving past this barrier is not just practice, but targeted refinement:
  1. Analyze your mistakes deeply to identify patterns (e.g., certain question types or timing issues).
  2. Practice high-difficulty questions under timed conditions to simulate test pressure.
  3. Work on pacing—sometimes it’s better to skip a very tough question early and save time for later.
  4. Review advanced strategies like back-solving, estimation, and recognizing common traps.
Would love to hear what worked for others who jumped from Q78 to Q85+. Let’s share tips and push through this together!

Hi Laverne34,

These are some nice ideas. One thing I recommend that my students do in this situation is engage in topical practice.

For example, let’s say you want to practice Number Properties. You can do so by answering 50 or more questions just from Number Properties: LCM, GCF, units digit patterns, divisibility, remainders, etc.

After each problem set, it's crucial to delve into the questions you answered incorrectly.

For instance, if you stumbled on a remainder question, take a moment to reflect. Was it a careless error? Did you fail to apply the remainder formula correctly? Was there a concept in the question that eluded you? This analysis is key to your learning process.

By carefully analyzing your mistakes, you will be able to fix your weaknesses efficiently and, in turn, improve your GMAT quant skills. Number Properties is just one example; follow this process for all quant, verbal, and DI topics.

Feel free to reach out with any questions.
