guys, again the issue of "because" and "in that." From what I understood, "because" is preferred to "in that", yet "in that" is the correct choice here. i've noticed that whenever there is such a split, the "in that" was alway the correct choice. is "in that" more preferred than "because" or what am i missing here? can somebody provide explanation when choosing your answer? thanks

Whenever you see 'because' and 'in that' in a sentence, 'in that' is, more than not, the correct choice.
'in that' qualifies a previous sentence. 'because' establishes a simple causal relationship.
There is no causal relationship established in this sentence. We just want to explain what makes bricolage an unusual art form.
