Anybody know of others???

Why even ask this? I can't imagine a school not requiring one or the other and being a legitimate program that employers would repsect. I have a friend who is attending a lower ranked program and they had to write one essay and submit one recco.

I can not comment on programs in United States but in India, the best programs in management do not ask for essays or recos. Surprisingly, many top consulting and finance companies (International) recruit there. One can find there alumni at top places in many companies.

There process does require you to go through a tough entrance exam, then a group discussion with fellow applicants (while faculty members observe) and a personal interview.

I believe all the California State Universities (San Francisco State, San Jose State, Long Beach State, etc), do not require recommendations as long as you reach a certain GMAT threshold. (I think it's like 550??) However, you do need to submit 1 short essay about your MBA goals.

Incredible. What's the interview like - smoking a reefer with the adcoms?

lol, there isn't even an interview! It's simply getting a 550+, a short essay, pay the application fee and you're IN.

dude I think you're referring to the IIM's .........dunno abt others but IIM-B requires LOR's (an three of them no less) after you have been invited to interview.

Would personally like to do the reefer interview though :)

I understand that the college would have paid for his MBA since he works there. Most employees of colleges can go for free. However, it doesn't make much sense that he didn't have to turn in an application or GMAT score. It says on their website that GMAT, essays, LoR, etc... are required. Were there some special circumstances involved?

As far as I know, all the IIMs ask for the LOR and a SOP (short statement). So, I don't think they belong to this thread :)

I'm not sure exactly how that worked for my friend. He said he worked in finance department, so perhaps his boss was related to the admissions of finance MBA department? He also was an undergrad there, so perhaps that had something to do with his application waive.
