If you get an admit from ESCP, I think you should join. If not, then you definitely want to retake the GMAT. Given your goals in finance, a GMAT score is what Bschools will like to see, and a much higher one. I'd suggest you explore that option seriously if ESCP doesn't come through.

Hello EdoardoMarz,

HEC was extremely competitive last year and your test score was under the average for the school.

We feel that if the chances of a score improvement are low, it makes sense for you to consider going ahead with ESCP (even though you have not still received an admit and chances will depend on how your interview goes).

All the best!

Hi guys,
I am writing this post for two main reasons : sharing my experience and asking you some advices.
Even if I have an international and strong academical profile I got rejected yester from HEC Paris MiM , which was my top choice. Since my profile I am pretty sure that the problem were the facts I applied last round and average GRE. I still have an interview for ESCP in 1 week but I am not sure if I want to study there.
There are great chances that I am going to take a gap year to study a third language , do two internships and most importantly apply early access for various masters (LBS , LSE , HEC and St.Gallen) --> my career goal is IB or corporate finance
My main concerns are :
- GMAT / GRE --> I studied GMAT for 2 months and took it twice with a low 525 focus , then I took the GRE 318 (161q , 157v). Since I understood I am not naturally good at this test I am afraid that if I do not find good tutors or courses for this summer (please suggest me some) my GMAT is not going to move and re-taking the GRE could be dangerous because probably BS see it worse than the GMAT (?)
-Finding internships in Investment Banking / M&A Consulting , this can be even tougher because with just a bachelor degree from an Italian public school , recruiters would probably not even consider my application.
Please tell me what , considering my profile , you think : Should I study at ESCP ? Should I take a gap year and risk it all?
Thanks in advance

I don't really know much about your demographics or more specifics about your profile. So I don't have much to comment but if you need a holistic Ding Analysis, let me know, we have some available for free at MBA Conquerors so we can dig deeper into everything from stats/resume/profile to essays.

Anyhow, now I think your GRE isn't really average, it's a bit below average for HEC.

I believe GRE has a lot of breathing room for you to improve on. Even a 6-8 point jump can easily get you in the right spot.

If you're not willing to go to a school, it's worth thinking Why you applied there in the first place. It's worthwhile to give ESCP a fair trial based on those factors. But you still haven't received the admit, just an interview invite from what you mentioned, so let's see how that goes first.

Coming now to the gap year, you must try to fill that with some sort of experience more aligned with your post-MBA/MiM goals! Because gap looks bad. There's no harm in trying one last time to get into your dream schools. Maybe the Gods will bless you in the second innings. There's still hope
