Many programs are very open minded to older military applicants. Primarily, the military experience is different from business experience so you’re not judged in the same age driven criteria.

The one year program is a good bet. You don’t get a summer internship, but I think it’s your age and Cook particular situation, it’s more important to get done faster, and re-enter the workforce then to get an internship. You should be able to rely on the numerous veterans organizations and clubs within business schools. many are very tight and have strong camaraderie. Often, military guys are the first ones to get jobs because recruiters are also very committed and dedicated within that group.

However, it is sometimes tricky if you’re moving countries. Many companies in the US have goals to hire veterans, but often those goals apply only to the domestic veterans and not international. I guess one question is where do you want to be geographically ideally or realistically?

Dear GMAT community,

Greetings for the day!
I am looking for 1 year MBA programmes across the world.

I am 41 yrs old and retiring next year from the armed forces. My job in the forces ha sbeen primarily on the engineering side including maintennace and operation. I have been a chief engineer of a frontline frigate. Looking for a corporate transition now. Have completed my GMAT and got a 720. (Q50, V38).

I have explored most of the schools, however age looks like a big barrier.

Request if someone can suggest good schools wherein I can apply.

Hi sumitgmat21,

You can find a list of "regular" 1 year MBA programs here: https://aringo.com/mba-1y-one-year-programs/

However, at your age you might also want to consider EMBA programs or full-time senior EMBA programs. Feel free to get in touch for some advice on applying to top MBA programs at an older age!

Hi sumitgmat21 hope this finds you well.

I recently worked with a to-be army veteran close to your age and experience. We have been pragmatic with our selection of schools knowing well the competition and the volatile job market situation for internationals in the US. The applicant has secured admit from ISB, and interviews from IIM A (due soon) as well as the US schools in the top 20-30 bracket (awaiting results). You surely would need to cast a wide net in terms of B School applications to increase the odds of success. May I suggest you actively engage with the schools' admissions offices for the ones on your list and get some candid feedback on your profile? Also, voice other concerns you may have (age, job prospects, etc.). I cannot emphasize enough how much reading into the schools' responses can help you prepare a targeted list and set the right expectations. Let the schools know about your interest before applying and make a good impression in the process.

Given the current situation wrt the job market, I think ISB, IIM A,B,C will be excellent options for you with great ROI (if you are interested in studying in India).

Do reach out should you need candid advice

Best wishes

Dear experts and other members,

Firstly thank u all for quick responses.

I looked up few of the programmes and infact sent emails also including judge, said, kellogg, insead. Got responses from all except insead. None of the colleges on the face have mentioned age as a barrier and have generally expressed willingness for diversity but then I don't know how would it go once I send the application.

I have looked up folowing pgmes which probably suit my age and profile
USC Marshall IBEAR
MIT Sloan fellowship
stanford MSx.
While I plan to get in touch with their respective Adcoms, request if someone in the forum can give a little more insights about these pgmes.

#MBAGuide - How do I connect with you.

Thanks and Rgds to all
