Hello,

I am looking at applying for MBA programs in mainland China. I speak a little Chinese, but i'm looking for English language programs. I will, of course, be improving my Chinese while in China :)

I know that not all the Chinese schools are ranked internationally, but of the ones that are CEIBS, Fudan and Jiaotong are the best. I've decided not to apply to BiMBA - But I know it is also one of the best ranked.

However, on local rankings, it seems that Tsinghua and Peking are also very highly rated. And then there is CKGSB - which seems very well rated at executive MBA's but i'm not sure about their full time MBA.

Those are the 6 schools I am considering right now. However, I dont want to apply to all 6 - primarily because each one requires a reference and I dont want to be too troublesome for my references. However i'm not sure which ones will be the best choice.

I have a GMAT score of 770 and I think my application will be quite competitive, so I think I have a chance of getting into any of the schools. I will be applying in Round 1 - which generally closes in October or November. I would like my career to be in China, or heavily involved in China, after graduation.

Scholarships are another consideration - with my GMAT score I will get a "free ride" to Fudan and Jiaotong. The other one's, i'm not so sure.

I was wondering if anyone could help me out and provide any comments or advice?

Thanks for sharing.

My general advice, is to research some more about the programs you are considering. I understand the trade-off between going for the more recognized programs, and the ones with higher likelihood of getting scholarships. So if the only consideration is troubling your references for 2-3 additional schools, I would suggest to just go for it.

Most likely doing the recommendations gets easier for them once they have done 1 or 2. :-D

As a Chinese targeting U.S. schools, I think I do have some local knowledge can be useful to you.

If longterm value of your degree is of any importance to you, Tsinghua is a no brainer. MBA in China used to be more like EMBA, where networking overweights academic experience. Things are changing slowly right now, and Tsinghua simply posses unmatched teaching power in related areas (Finance, Eco, Accounting etc) and most prestigious brand fame. PKU is of similar situation but they're half a step behind THU in their MBA program building.

CEIBS is the earliest pioneer of MBA and EMBA education in China and they'll stay relevant in future. However they simply do not have that kind of resource to match with a comprehensive institution like THU or PKU in longterm. Fudan and Jiaotong are other 2 of commonly recognized top 5 Universities in China (The other being Zhejiang University, out of question here for its now much inferior MBA program).

Geographically speaking, PKU and THU are located in the very heart of China, while other 3 located in China's financial center. Shanghai is less polluted (especially in winter) and got better scenic views, and Beijing is in contrast more culture heavy.

I'd vote for Tsinghua with my 2 cents. GL with your application! (You probably don't need much of it with your GMAT score)
