Misplaced modifier error.
By focusing on poverty(modifier)
Who/ what focused on poverty? Sociologists.
Therefore, Sociologists will be placed next to the modifier.
Only option E corrects the error.

By focusing on poverty--> should be modifying the sociologists so we need sociologists after this as the subject of main clause. I am bolding the subject off the main caluse below
