E and A are close, any explanations why (A) is wrong.

A is explicitly mentioned in the second line of the stem. It already gave away the possibility that some high caffeine consumption group had less anxiety. E should be it as it reverses cause vs effect. Which came first, the chicken or the egg?

Agree with (E). The people in high consumption group already had lot of anxiety to begin with.
