HI EVERYONE,

im really new to gmat preparation-and was wondering, does the gmat allow calculators for the quant section?

Moreover, you won't be able to use any electronic device either. You will have to place all your personal belongings into the locker before the GMAT.

try doing math in your head and just jog down intermediate numbers if needed.

I think this really depend on how you practice and how well you know math. Some folks will be able to do a lot of calculations in their heads without messing up and some will have to write everything down. However you are, you should practice as such. I don't think any math questions on the GMAT should really make you spend more than 2 minutes in writing calculations. If that's the case, you should practice more on your basic maths, such as multiplication and division.

i think the places where you find yourself needing to use "heavy" calculations are:

1. figuring out a square root that you shouldve memorized
2. using plugin but not using easy to work with numbers
3. trying to find a huge number in a large sequence without finding some way to reduce it
4. forgetting some interest formulas so you have to multiply the years/months out.

Theres probably a few more but most of the time if you know the shortcuts you really dont need to do much calculation at all.
