California’s child-support payments are as high or higher than other states.

Quote:
(A) as high or higher than other states
- two issues here: (1) "as high as" - we need both "as" to have complete idiom, (2) the sentence compares "payments" with "other states", two items logically not parallel.

Quote:
(B) at least as high as any states
- wrong for the reason similar to the one in A: as worded, the sentence compares "payments" with "any state"

Quote:
(C) as high as, or higher than, those of any other state
- Correct
Quote:
(D) higher than any state’s, or just as high
- awkward constuction
Quote:
(E) higher, or as high as, other states
- two issues here: (1) we need "higher than" (2) the sentence compares "payments" with "other states"

California’s child-support payments are as high or higher than other states.

(A) as high or higher than other states =>Wrong comparison "payments" vs "states"
(B) at least as high as any states =>Wrong comparison "payments" vs "states"
(C) as high as, or higher than, those of any other state This is my take! "payments" vs "those of any other state"
(D) higher than any state’s, or just as high => wrong Comparison syntax
(E) higher, or as high as, other states =>Wrong comparison "payments" vs "states"
